"This is my family's favorite dessert, whether we are at home or camping! This is especially yummy when served warm with vanilla ice cream. White cake mix works as well as yellow."
1Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line the inside of a Dutch oven with aluminum foil.
2Spread cherry pie filling in an even layer into the bottom of the Dutch oven. Sprinkle cake mix over the pie filling; top with a layer of brown sugar. Dot the top with butter pieces. Put lid on the Dutch oven.
3Bake in preheated oven until the top is golden brown, 45 to 90 minutes.

If making this while camping, cook by putting Dutch oven atop hot charcoals and putting some hot coals on the lid of the oven.
